Modeling the agents and actions

The agent modeler is the task which maintains descriptions of the agents, including their goals, knowledge, and beliefs. As concepts enter this task, information is extracted relating to the agents which are known to exist in the story world. At the end of the story, a complete history of each agent will have been created. In Squire, the reader learns that the agent represented by Trelane is both illogical and extremely powerful, as well as the fact that the entity is an alien. This will all be added the information being maintained by the reasoner about the Trelane agent.

Modeling the agents is only part of scenario comprehension; it is also necessary to model the actions which they take part in. This is the function of the action modeler, which maintains descriptions of the actions in a scenario, including the states which proceeded them (and possibly enabled them to occur) and the states which resulted from them. It is this set of actions which will be referenced by the plot task from story structure comprehension. Kirk and crew are confronted by Trelane, in the story, so each of these agents participate in the confront action. The action is proceeded by the fact that the Enterprise is being held captive, a state which resulted from the original action of the story.
