Task interaction

It is not the case that the tasks of the story structure comprehension supertask proceed in a linear fashion. As each concept is given to this supertask, each task attempts to extract information from it relating to its own goals. Knowledge is added to the shared story structure memory structure as soon as it is discovered, in hopes that other tasks may be able to make use of it. Consider genre identification. It was stated that if a reader discovers that Captain Kirk exists in the story being processed, this task will then determine that a Star Trek story is being dealt with. The reverse of this may also occur; if the reader discovers (or knows a priori) that they are handling a Star Trek story, then character identification will anticipate finding Captain Kirk.
