chkconfig
chkconfig daemon --list
This shows you the particular service and its defaults
[root@Hamming rc3.d]# chkconfig sshd --list
sshd 0:off 1:off 2:on 3:on 4:on 5:on 6:off
This means SSHD is on by default in run levels 2 - 5 and off in levels 0,1, and 6
What if we want to turn it off in run levels two and four?
chkconfig --level 24 sshd off
[root@Hamming rc3.d]# chkconfig sshd --list
sshd 0:off 1:off 2:off 3:on 4:off 5:on 6:off
