groupadd
This command will add a new group to
/etc/group
.
The following will create a new group:
# groupadd -g 1024 groupname
The
-g
option allows you to pick the group ID number.
If you do not use this option, then the system picks the next available sequential number greater than 500.
The
-o
option allows the group ID to be nonunique.
This allows multiple names for the same group ID.
