passwd
Use the
passwd
command to change your password.
The command asks you for your old password and then prompts you for the new password (twice).
If you are the super-user, then
You can change any password using the form :
passwd username
You are not prompted for the old password.
Passwords are stored in
/etc/shadow
if shadow passwords are enabled (and they should be!).
Passwords can contain uppercase and lowercase letters, the digits 0 through 9, and punctuation marks.
Passwords are case sensitive.
